Natalie Merchant Previews "Leave Your Sleep," Forthcoming Nonesuch Debut, on BBC and in Concert

Natalie Merchant's musical sweep through London concludes tonight with a free performance at the Free Word Centre, home to the organization Free Word, which works to promote, protect, and democratize the power of the written and spoken word for creative and free expression. Natalie will perform and discuss a selection of songs from her forthcoming Nonesuch debut, titled Leave Your Sleep, a collection of songs adapted from the works of various classic and contemporary poets, due out early next year.

Tonight's event follows Monday's show at London's Conway Hall, Natalie's first UK solo performance in over seven years, and the preceding Friday's guest performance with Guy Barker and the London Jazz Festival Orchestra for the gala opening night concert of the London Jazz Festival at the Barbican. On BBC Radio Scotland, Natalie spoke with Global Gathering host Mary Ann Kennedy about her career and the forthcoming album, Leave Your Sleep.
